As one of our newest and most exciting London schemes, what better way to celebrate the architectural beauty of Richardson Mews than to commission a scale model to be produced for the development? During a trip to Hong Kong, a member of our team scouted out an architectural model maker who had an accomplished track record in model making designs. We then commissioned VDC Models to produce a 1:50 scale model of the Richardson Mews development, including an integrated interactive lighting control system and a branded Richardson Mews plinth display stand.
We initially sent VDC Models some representative external CGIs, plans, sections and elevations produced by our architects so they could begin fabricating the architectural model. VDC Models would then send us regular updates with progress photos so that we could provide any comments or suggestions. Our main aim was to ensure that the scale model could fully communicate the attention to detail and style of Richardson Mews.
Of course the key is in the detail – VDC Models even modelled some of the original building façade features such as the red brick ornamentation, ball top finials, cornices, friezes and decorative ridge tiles. Some ageing colourants were also used on the model’s front façade to mirror the Victorian brick from the original Richardson Mews façade. The model materials were then carefully selected to represent the ridged zinc façade cladding, the slate grey shop front and window frames, the Victorian red brick and the surrounding street furniture. Model green foliage was also placed in the communal garden and private terrace spaces for some finishing touches. VDC Models were even able to incorporate an exemplary grocery store which will occupy the ground floor once the site is complete.
Finally, the finished product was then shipped over to London all the way from Hong Kong. We rejoiced! The model arrived safely in one piece along with assembly instructions, ready for showing in the Richardson Mews marketing suite later this year.
